What does Cloud Computing mean for you?
You have heard the buzz behind Cloud Computing and Hosted Solutions, but what does that mean for your business and how do you get started?
Cloud Computing can deliver some or all of the benefits and advantage of IT solutions while reducing the traditional challenges of installation, deployment and security.
Cloud Computing brings with it different degrees of implementation and adoption. Each approach has significant offerings and considerations that an enterprise must understand in order choose the right configuration to meet daily operational requirements.
Basic Cloud Configurations:
SAAS (Software as a Service)
In the SAAS environment, infrastructure and software are typically packaged and delivered in a subscription based model. This provides for minimal start up costs and simple scalability since fees are generally charged on a per user basis. Software is usually delivered as browser based application or through some other client delivery platform like Remote Desktop or Citrix. This environment is typically a public or semi-private cloud.
This is similar to SAAS but the software licensing may or may not be part of the package and the hardware could be owned. Basically hosting takes the Infrastructure Management (servers and network) out of the Enterprise with software licenses being fully or partially owned by the Enterprise but deployed in the cloud. This environment is usually is a private and semi-private cloud.
The Hybrid Cloud has become the most common cloud implementation. This is a combination of software, hardware, and services that are typically partially cloud based and partially on-premise. This methodology provides for a phased approach for the transition to and adoption of cloud computing technologies.
Potential Benefits of Cloud Computing
- Deploy in Hours or Days, not weeks: The infrastructure and base applications are already there. You just need to turn them on for your business.
- Scale up or down based upon your needs: Login or make a phone call to scale up or down users or capacity in a fraction of the time. No more overbuying capacity or users.
- Manage your Cash flow with a Predictible, Flexible Cost Structure: eliminate the large upfront costs and move to a predictible, steady montly cost based upon your specific needs
Remove insecurity and uneasiness: Your data is protect in secure software “vaults” designed from the ground up against natural and man made events
Built-in Protection from Day One: Business class firewalls, anti-virus and backup already factored into costs and manged by IT pros
